Marketing Communication Skills, Rule Number 1: Listen To What People Say If You Want To Know What They Need
In many situations we often think we are listening, but in reality we’re only hearing what we want to hear. Communicating with someone is useless if you don’t know his hidden agenda. That’s also where many marketers fail… they know that most people have a hidden agenda, but they don’t do the effort to understand that agenda. Moreover, you will never create trust when you keep pushing someone in the hope that he will join your business opportunity or buy a product. Trust is easy to create, but you have to be genuine, frank and honest; an example: if you’re talking to someone who is sick and that person doesn’t have money to buy medication… don’t offer him medication, but give him some money so that he can buy the medication he wants and needs. Only he knows what he needs… you can’t made a decision in other people’s place.
Marketing Communication Skills, Rule Number 2: Don’t Talk Too Much
I often have the habit to talk way too much and although I know this, in many cases it’s hard for me not to talk about something that excites me. In general, talking too much works pejoratively because you’re smothering people this way. It’s also in their advantage if they are the one asking the questions… just like you need to do the money the work for you in economics, you need to do your communication partner do the talking.
One on one presentations can often be a waste of time, certainly when you have lots of recorded information available. However, I value the personal touch and find it important that people can ask me everything they need to know. Marketing communication skills include social and presentation skills. It’s part of the job as a business owner to improve both communication skills.
Marketing Communication Skills, Rule Number 3: Stay Active In The Background
It’s important that you stay consistent in your actions. How can you expect people to show interest in what you are doing if you don’t remind them about it? If someone isn’t interested today, you have to focus again and keep in mind that there’s always tomorrow or next year. Nonetheless, it’s not your job to convert people’s belief, it’s your job to inspire them and offer them the opportunity to get to know you.
Secondly, it’s in your advantage to use advertising platforms that automatically put money in your pockets. Marketing a business by just posting some links on advertising platforms is basically a hit-and-miss strategy. If you’re not targeting your customers online, you might as well try to sell ice to an Eskimo.
The 2 biggest mistakes that many marketers make are: 1. trying way too hard and 2. not doing a thing.
If you want to improve your marketing communication skills, I suggest you to first take some time and think about what you are currently doing wrong and then search for working strategies.
